Our History
1997
The Tax Appeals Tribunal is established by an act of parliament in 1997.
1998
Hon. Lady Justice Leticia Kikonyogo presided over the swearing in of first chairperson and the 4 members of the tax Appeals Tribunal.
1999
The first matter is filed before the Tribunal – (TAT No.1 of 1999: China Jiefang (U) Limited v Uganda Revenue Authority).
2008
Dr. Asa Mugenyi is appointed as the Chairperson of the Tribunal.
2017
The Supreme Court rules in Uganda Revenue Authority v Rabbo Enterprises (U) Limited that all tax disputes must first be lodged with the Tax Appeals Tribunal and only taken before the High Court on appeal.
2018
Mediation is made mandatory at the Tribunal.
2022
The membership of the Tribunal is expanded from 5 to 9 members. 40% of the members are required to be female.
2024
Dr. Asa Mugenyi, is appointed to the Court of Appeal.
2024
The first female, Ms. Crystal Kabajwara, is appointed as the Chairperson of the Tribunal.
